Did you know that deleting files and emptying the recycle bin are not enough to erase traces of the files from a computer? Alternate File Shredder solves this problem by overwriting these places with random data to render the files useless even if someone tries to recover the data.
There are buttons for adding either individual files or entire folders and check boxes for choosing to shred filenames, confirm delete, write random data, ignore write protection and change file sizes either randomly or to zero.
You can even enhance your security by choosing the number of iterations, which refers to the number of times the program overwrites data. Please note that choosing a higher number is safer, but it can significantly slow down the process depending on the size of shredded data. Ignoring write-protection means you can shred files even if they are write-protected.
You can also use the free file shredder to shred free space. Remember free simply means you can write data, but the space may hide previously deleted data.
